The first step in setting up taxes will be to create the tax rates themselves. To do this, a Full access user can head over to the Settings tab, and click Taxes within the left sidebar menu. Next, click on the blue New Tax button to get started.
You can add a name for your tax, and enter a rate. You’ll also need to check off which locations will use this tax.
Once created, you can edit your products and treatments to be taxable as needed. To edit a product, head to Settings > Products and click Edit. Next, you can toggle on the applicable tax and choose whether that tax is separate or included within the price of the product.
To add a tax to a session or treatment, you’ll want to head over to the Settings > Treatments, Classes & Group Appointments within the Settings tab and click to edit. Scroll down to the Details section to select the tax and choose whether it’s included in the listed price or not.
When patients view treatments on the online booking site, Jane does not display any hard-coded text to indicate whether the price will have taxes included or added. To inform patients about taxes, we recommend adding this information in the Description (Before Booking) area under the Treatments, Classes & Group Appointments section within the Settings tab.
Taxes will automatically be calculated when you set up a new purchase. If you indicate that taxes are included, Jane will do the math and let you know which portion of the purchase price represents the sales taxes.
Now that you have your taxes set up, here is our Disabling tax on an individual purchase Jane guide in case that scenario pops up for you in the future.
